“Even one voice can be heard loudly all over the world in this day and age.”
Did you know that August 3rd is National Watermelon Day? Neither did I.
More importantly, August 8 – 10, 2013, are the dates for this year’s Watermelon Festival in Hope, Arkansas. For years, we have been trying to get to the Watermelon Festival in Hope. I’ve seen the watermelons they grow out this way, and am dying to see what the Watermelon Festival is all about.
We might get the chance – our nephew (who, in keeping with the bird them, will probably be called Goose) is turning 3 and we are heading to Little Rock for the party next weekend.
To get to Little Rock, one must pass through Hope. ;)
Here’s a random thought. One of my law firm’s clients, who I’ll call Charlie, grows Yellow Watermelons in his garden. Every year he sends me seeds from California. One year he sent seeds to grow Yellow Watermelons. Never have been able to get them to grow out here in North Texas, though.
Frankly, I haven’t had much success at growing any color watermelon in Texas.
On the list of “Reasons I want to Leave Texas”, this is pretty near the top. (There’s also a “Reasons I want to stay in Texas” list – maybe I’ll post them someday).
Happy National Watermelon Day!!!
